Solar Decathlon

The Solar Decathlon is an important biannual event hosted by the Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. This event requires teams of university students to design and build an 800 square foot energy efficient home using only commercially available products. The purpose of the event is to promote innovative ways to use products currently available in the marketplace so that they may be adopted in both national and international building projects. This goal also works to assist in achieving the goals of the DOE's President's Solar America Initiative, which includes decreasing the cost of solar power to a level comparable to existing sources of energy within 10 years and the increased adoption of solar related technologies.

33 Official Sponsors

Many well-known corporations, such as BP, Honeywell, Applied Materials, Dell and Dow Corning have sponsored Solar Decathlon 2009, and a few have also sponsored competing teams. Meteor Solar LED is proud to be given the opportunity to join the ranks of these large multinationals in sponsorship the event. We have also sponsored three school teams, putting us in a small group of businesses that have shown their support to the advancement the ideals of the Solar Decathlon by sponsoring both the school teams and the event. Meteor Lighting proves that companies both big and small have a part to play in finding a solution to our energy problems.
